Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

Thank you for considering including a gift in your Will for Spiritual Growth Ministries. If you can’t find an answer to your question here, please use the form below to contact us. We can give you more information and discuss your wishes in confidence.

We’re here to help you so that together, we can continue to extend an invitation to future generations to discover and experience the life-giving stream of contemplative spirituality in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

  • When you make or update your Will, your legal advisor will ensure it is valid and reflects your wishes.

The most effective way to support SGM is through a residual or percentage gift:

    • Residual gift – the remainder of your estate after providing for loved ones.
    • Percentage gift – a percentage of the value of your estate.

Some people choose to leave a set amount. We gratefully receive such gifts, though please note their value may lessen over time due to inflation.

Please get in touch with us using the form below if you’d like to discuss your options in more detail. For more information, including specific wording to provide your solicitor, please refer to our Gifts in Wills Guide.

  • Your gift will help SGM to:

    • Form and sustain spiritual directors – through the SGM Spiritual Directors Formation Programme and ongoing professional development, equipping people with the wisdom and skill for a lifetime of accompanying others in their spiritual journeys.

    • Form people in Christian contemplative spirituality
    - through spiritual direction, retreats, the Refresh Journal of Contemplative Spirituality, digital resources and other formation offerings that nurture the spiritual growth of individuals and faith communities.

    • Ensure access and opportunity reducing financial barriers so those called to be formed as spiritual directors can respond, and keeping retreats and formation open to all.

    • Preserve and evolve the contemplative tradition – stewarding this Christian lineage faithfully whilst discerning what is on the horizon. We respond to changing cultural and spiritual landscapes with new expressions and formation initiatives like Pathways to Presence.

    • Equip contemplatives for action

    – nurturing people who bring depth, discernment, and courage to their leadership, practice of Te Tiriti - informed partnership, and service within community. In a polarised society, contemplative presence offers a “third way” perspective and nurtures prophetic imagination for a just and loving world.

  • We understand that you may wish to direct your gift to a particular purpose. However, most people leave an unrestricted gift to “Where most needed.”

This allows SGM to fill the most critical gaps across our work so that the ministry continues for all those who need it. It also means that as our work evolves to respond to changing cultural and spiritual landscapes, your gift can evolve with it.

However, feel free to contact us to discuss any specific wishes you may have.

  • We encourage you to let us know if you have included a gift to SGM to help us plan for the future with confidence. While an unexpected gift is most welcome, it would be a blessing to hear from you so we can personally thank you and keep you or your Trustees informed of the impact gifts in Wills are making now. However, if you wish to remain anonymous, this will be honoured.
