‘Matariki Blessing’ - Poem by Christine Kelly

Matariki Blessing

BY CHRISTINE KELLY

As the earth turns daily
to face the sun
and the seasons
cycle toward rebirth,
we welcome
the rising of the sisters in our heavens.
In this time
of restoration
may
a spirit of gentle memory
visit us.
May
the flame of faith
warm and waken us.
May we
find ourselves soft
within a circle of
befriended shadow
And from
this blessing place
rise
to share our hearth space
with the stranger at our door.

Christine Kelly lives in Rotorua and practices Christian meditation daily. She writes prayers and blessings and is especially influenced by the work of the poet John Donohue.  Christine values opportunities to join with others for shared spiritual adventure, growth in creativity and wider outreach to hearts nourished by the gentle embrace of words.

This poem was first published in the July 2024 issue of Refresh - Matariki.
